A McKesson Corp. spokesman said Wednesday that PSS World Medical Inc.’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining notice about the elimination of 124 jobs was related to a business decision to close the company’s physician dispensing business.
McKesson spokesman Randy King said that 66 of those 124 jobs are located in Jacksonville at a facility on Bowden Road. The rest are in other locations outside of Jacksonville.
King also said the company is working to relocate some of those employees to other jobs in the McKesson system. McKesson employs more than 40,000 people overall.
McKesson acquired Jacksonville-based PSS earlier this year. PSS employed about 780 people in Jacksonville and 4,000 overall when the $2.1 billion acquisition was announced.
King said there have been some jobs eliminated in Jacksonville related to the merger, but the number of cuts is “relatively small.”
He did not have figures for how many employees the company has in Jacksonville.
