Jacksonville Port Authority leadership, employees and volunteers spent part of Saturday cleaning up the port-owned property along the St. Johns River in Mayport.

Port board member Jim Citrano and CEO Brian Taylor brought family and friends, who planted trees and grass while also clearing debris. The team-building project is part of the port’s property’s beautification plan that includes removing building foundations.

City says buyback event was a success

The city is calling this past Saturday’s Tire and Sign Buyback event a success after about 3,000 people came to at EverBank Field to turn in 23,000 tires and 6,000 illegal signs. Those who turned out could drop off up to 10 tires for $2 per tire and up to 40 signs for 50 cents per sign. The event was a partnership between the city and City Council Ad Hoc Committee on Jacksonville’s Neighborhood Blight chaired by council member Denise Lee. The money left from the $60,000 that was budgeted will return to the Contamination Assessment Fund, the source of the funding.
