“Come for the sweet and stay for the savory” is the slogan for two businesses opening Downtown this month.
Sweet Pete’s candy company and The Candy Apple Café & Cocktails have taken over the former Seminole Club at 400 N. Hogan St., offering the combination of handmade candies and French and Southern fusion cuisine for brunch, lunch and dinner.
Peter Behringer and his wife, Allison, will open a new candy factory and retail store. The restaurant is a new venture for mother-daughter duo, Liz and Jennifer Earnest, owners of Chef’s Garden Catering and Events.
Both businesses are scheduled to celebrate grand openings Dec. 15. The Candy Apple will host a soft opening with 20 percent off dining Monday-Dec. 14.
The restaurant’s menu includes appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches and entrees such as sautéed escargot, Angus burgers, short-rib meatloaf, buttermilk fried chicken, eggs Benedict and bourbon pecan waffles.
A children’s menu is available.
The restaurant also will have full-bar service with beer, wine and cocktails. Event space for groups up to 500 is available on the upper floors, said Jennifer Earnest.
In addition to the retail store, Sweet Pete’s will offer candy-making classes, said Tammy Clark, retail manager.
“We teach the science of making candy,” she said.
Sweet Pete’s will open at 5 p.m. Wednesday for Art Walk and then open daily beginning Thursday.
