Since 1974, NEFBA’s Apprenticeship Program has trained qualified applicants on a career path in the construction industry, and its first chairman was Carmel Morris.

For his service and dedication to the program, Morris was dubbed “The Godfather of the Apprentice Program.”

Year after year, Carmel Morris and Allstate Electrical Contractors consistently supported the program and often sponsored more apprentices than any other NEFBA contractor in any trade.

At the apprentice graduation this year, Morris was honored by the association and the program by naming an award for him: the Carmel Morris Employer of the Year Award. This award will be presented annually to the company that demonstrates outstanding support of the apprenticeship program. Fittingly, the first Carmel Morris Employer of the Year Award was awarded to Allstate Electrical Contractors.

Morris achieved the highest rank an associate can hold when he became a NEFBA second vice president, and he was named associate member of the year twice. He is a former associate vice president of the Florida Home Builders Association and the first NEFBA member to be an FHBA honorary life board member.

In 1984, he was named the National Association of Home Builders Associate of the Year.

While he achieved multiple honors in his career, Morris said having the award named for him was at the top of the list.
