Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Network Realty’s Atlantic Beach office has been collecting supplies for two orphanages in Djibouti, Africa.

“We hear so many heartbreaking stories about children living in harsh conditions in other parts of the world who drastically need simple things such as hats and shoes,” said Linda H. Sherrer, president and CEO of Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Florida Network Realty Founder.

Realtor Claudia Berger-Ayer of the Atlantic Beach office organized the collection after learning the orphanages did not have the resources they needed. Her husband serves in the U.S. Air Force, and is stationed in Djibouti where he was working with a chaplain who needed supplies for children age 10 and under.

The office filled 23 boxes of clothes, toiletries, baby wipes, diapers, toys, nonperishable food and candy. The Berkshire Hathaway HomeServices Ponte Vedra Beach branch office also contributed.

“There are many items we have access to daily and can take for granted, yet for these children they are life-saving tools that are vital to survival,” Berger-Ayer said. “The response from our team has been amazing. Everyone is so willing to help.”

Many also donated money to help pay for shipping and transportation.
