Leadership Jacksonville has announced its new officers and members of the 2015-16 board of directors that will led by Chuck Hedrick, Foley & Lardner partner.
In addition to Hedrick, the other officers are Karen Mayfield, SunTrust Bank North Florida client adviser and senior vice president; Clark Robertson, CSX Transportation Inc. assistant vice president; as secretary and treasurer; and Deborah Moore, EverBank senior vice president and marketing director, as immediate past president.
New members are Gordon Bailey, Rosa Beckett, Kelly DeGance, Jamie Shelton and Becky Steele.

City Rescue mission to open cooling center
The City Rescue Mission will open a “cooling center” from 9:30 a.m.-2:30 p.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays when the temperature rises above 95 degrees.
It’s the same building that’s used by the Jacksonville Day Resource Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. It’s located at 221 W. Union St. near the Rosa Parks Transit Station in Downtown.
The City Rescue Mission cares for the homeless and needy in Northeast Florida.

Stellar hires 2 managers, promotes 3 current employees
Stellar, a fully integrated firm focused on design, engineering and mechanical services worldwide, has hired two employees and promoted three project managers.
The new faces are Bill Stinson, vice president of institutional markets, and Adair Owens, preconstruction manager.
Stinson has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Miami University and has more than 35 years of commercial construction experience. He’ll focus on expanding the company’s education markets in the Southeast. Owens has a bachelor’s degree in building construction management from the University of Florida and has more than 27 years of commercial construction experience. She will be responsible for providing preconstruction services design-build and construction management clients.
The company also promoted Christopher Burgess, Matthew Hartley and Timothy Jenkins to project managers.
Burgess has a bachelor’s in building construction management from the University of North Florida and has more than nine years of experience. Hartley and Jenkins have the same educational credentials with 15 and 11 years of experience, respectively.
Scott reappoints Danzig to boating council
Gov. Rick Scott has reappointed Stephen Danzig of Ponte Vedra Beach to the state’s Boating Advisory Council.
Danzig, 67, is a marine surveyor for Atlantic Marine Surveys. He’s reappointed for a term that ends Sept. 30, 2017.
The 18-member board makes recommendations to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission about issues affecting the boating community.
Volunteers needed for July 5 cleanup
Independence Day typically is a huge day for the Beaches, but with the influx of visitors comes masses of additional garbage.
The city and Keep Jacksonville Beautiful are partnering with the Beaches Sea Turtle Patrol for the annual July 5 Beaches cleanup and are seeking volunteers.
Litter collection bags and gloves will be distributed to volunteers at beach spots at Atlantic Boulevard, Beach Boulevard and 16th Avenue South.
Participants must be at least 18 years old or accompanied by an adult and should wear sturdy footwear and sun protection. Cleanups are only canceled in the event of inclement weather.
Advance registration isn’t required.

Household hazardous waste collection Saturday
The city’s Solid Waste Division will host its next free household hazardous and electronic waste collection for Duval County residents Saturday.
It will be 9 a.m.-3 p.m. at Lonnie Miller Park, 7623 Price Lane.
Scheduled 11 times a year from November to June, residents are encouraged to use the mobile events to dispose of particular waste to prevent it from entering landfills.
Examples of electronic waste include TVs, computer monitors, keyboards, printers, scanners, mobile phones and power tools. Other hazardous waste includes paint, varnish, paint thinners, car batteries, drain cleaners and pool chemicals.
Those materials also can be collected year-round at the city facility 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesdays through Sunday at 2675 Commonwealth Ave.

Newman elected chair of JaxPort board
The season of leadership transition stretches beyond the confines of City Hall.
The Jacksonville Port Authority board has elected leaders for its 2015-16 year that begins July 1.
John Allen Newman, senior pastor of The Sanctuary at Mount Calvary, was elected chair; Bob Spohrer, president of Spohrer & Dodd, vice chairman; Jim Citrano, retired CBRE managing director, treasurer; and Ed Fleming, retired CEO and president of Atlantic Marine Holding Co., secretary.
“This is an incredibly important time for our region and our citizens, as JaxPort is on the verge of making an even bigger impact on employment and private sector opportunity,” said Newman in a news release.
The seven-member board provides policy guidance. Four members are appointed by the mayor, the remaining three by the governor.
Holland’s last SOE day starts Downtown
The Downtown Business Professional Group will have its next meeting at 7:30 a.m. Tuesday at The River Club. But they’ll also be hosting an outgoing guest, of sorts.
Supervisor of Elections Jerry Holland is the guest speaker in what will be his last day in the role. The next day, he’ll be assuming office as Property Appraiser.

Candidates to fill 4th Circuit judgeship
The 4th Judicial Circuit Nominating Commission has chosen six nominees to send to Gov. Rick Scott to fill a judgeship vacancy in the circuit.
They are Katie Dearing, Angela Gale, Stacey Myers, Mark Sieron, Gary Wilkinson and Cyrus Zomordian.
The applicants were interviewed during a public meeting on June 18.
Bensley named Acosta CFO
Acosta Sales & Marketing has named Tim Bensley as chief financial officer, responsible for overseeing the company’s finance activities, polices procedures and information technology.
Most recently, Bensley served as senior vice president of PepsiCo Global Transformation. During that time, Bensley led the company’s transition to a category operating model and established its first global project management office.
Past roles over three decades include senior finance and leadership positions for PepsiCo in North and South America.
Bensley has a bachelor’s degree in engineering from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
Edward Waters College reaffirmed by accreditation group
Edward Waters College has been reaffirmed and received full accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges.
In a news release, college President Nat Glover said he was “delighted” about the news and the results came from “a lot of hard work.”
“Our reaffirmation strengthens our commitment to educate the next generation of global leaders,” he said.
