The NEFBA installation of officers on Jan. 15 was a strong motivation to members and particularly the newly installed officers: This is an association that is passionate, growing and above all else, works together.
My overwhelming impression from the morning was one of gratitude for the accumulated wisdom in our organization.
Proverbs 13:20 says “He who walks with the wise grows wise.” Between our executive committee, board of directors, council chairs and diverse membership, wisdom abounds.
With this wealth of wisdom, we have developed a strong reliance on teamwork to accomplish our goals.
A review of last year’s challenges and successes illustrates that concept.
The first example that comes to mind is Builders Care.
Executive Director Justin Brown and NEFBA member and chairman of Builders Care board Gene Rover continuously partner with many other NEFBA companies that provide labor and materials for projects.
That core group then partners with community agencies such as HabiJax to provide safe, accessible housing for Jacksonville’s most vulnerable citizens.
Whether it’s one home in 24 hours, 25 new homes in two weeks or a single wheelchair ramp, Builders Care makes a difference through teamwork.
Another example is our Apprenticeship Program. NEFBA’s Training Director Penelope Geismar and NEFBA member and Training Vice President Keith Ward partner with other NEFBA members who provide on-the-job training opportunities for apprentices.
Joining this partnership are other organizations in the community that provide classroom training, laboratory experiences and volunteer opportunities for the apprentices.
Training the next generation of skilled construction laborers benefits individuals, the construction industry and the economic stability of the community.
Finally, the theme of teamwork is repeated throughout all NEFBA’s councils. Members, staff and the community form teams to tackle our community’s challenges. You can be part of this energetic effort that supports the association and the industry.
Beyond the direct benefit of active participation for you and your business, there is the satisfaction of making a significant contribution to your neighbors in Northeast Florida. And, there is the benefit of gaining wisdom as you walk with the wise.
