Duval

NEFBA’s Government Affairs Committee: The next Government Affairs meeting is 8:30 a.m., Thursday, March 24, at the NEFBA offices, 103 Century 21 Drive, Suite 100.

ADA Symposium: The city of Jacksonville and AIA Jacksonville will host the fifth annual ADA Symposium 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, at the Jacksonville Main Library. Titled “Breaking Down Barriers,” the discussion will cover the 2012 Florida Accessibility code for building construction as it relates to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Regional Planning Council appointments: Gov. Rick Scott appointed nine members to the Northeast Florida Regional Planning Council. The appointees include NEFBA member and St. Johns County Commissioner Jimmy Johns and NEFBA past presidents Curtis Hart and Michael Bourré. Other notable appointees include Nassau County Tax Collector John Drew and Clay County Chamber President Doug Conkey.

Clay

Specialty licensing: The Clay County Construction Trade Licensing Board made a recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners to amend the county ordinance governing construction licensing. The recommended ordinance includes adding in-county licenses for demolition, insulation, concrete, masonry, framing, stucco, lathe and plaster. The ordinance would allow those trades to work directly with homeowners within the county.

St. Johns

Endorsement: The St. Johns Builders Council and NEFBA have endorsed R.J. Larizza for the 7th Judicial Circuit state attorney. Larizza was elected in 2008 and has a career history involving the Department of Corrections, private practice and time spent as an assistant state attorney.

Nassau

Interim standards for model homes: The Nassau County Board of County Commissioners approved new rules regarding model homes. Previously there were no numerical standards that would allow model homes to be built in subdivisions that have not been platted. Under the new ordinance, developers will be allowed model homes on up to 10 percent of the lots in the phase for those projects in which the infrastructure is complete and accepted by the county and the plat has yet to be recorded.
