VyStar to illuminate its Downtown tower in July

The Jacksonville-based credit union said the lighting will be similar to that at its 100 W. Bay St. building.

VyStar Credit Union will be lighting up more of the night sky Downtown.

The city issued a permit May 13 for contractor Dana B. Kenyon Co. to install steel supports to support LED edge lighting to illuminate the outline of the tower at 76 S. Laura St.

The steel support project is $250,000, the permit shows.

Sandy Baker, VyStar vice president of communications and public relations, said the lights are scheduled to be installed by July.

Jacksonville-based VyStar is renovating and occupying the 23-story tower at 76 S. Laura St. and adjacent seven-floor building at 100 W. Bay St.

It bought both buildings to create a campus for its headquarters, previously along Blanding Boulevard in Southwest Jacksonville.

Baker said by email May 14 that the tower lighting project will complement the lighting that went up early this year on the Bay Street building.

“It will consist of blue shoestring lighting on the north and south elevations of the building and blue up-lighting on the top floor tiers of the building,” she said.
