St. Johns County issued a permit May 1 to build a Gate Express Carwash at 4980 U.S. 1 in St. Augustine.

The 5,128-square-foot car wash is planned on 2.21 acres of vacant land south of East Watson Road and adjacent to a CVS Pharmacy, according to the permit application. The project cost is $2.2 million.

Jacksonville-based ShayCore Enterprises, Inc. is the contractor.
