Jacksonville Golf & Country Club members have approved a $30 million plan to expand the clubhouse along with a rebuild and redesign of the golf course, according to an April 29 news release.

Club leaders are calling the plan “Blueprint for Tomorrow.”

Jacksonville Golf & Country Club is at 3985 Hunt Club Road N. off Hodges Boulevard. It is an equity golf course community. It has full golf, sports, social and junior executive memberships. It opened in 1989 and the community now has 919 homes.

“Our members have embraced a vision for the future — one that strengthens our club’s legacy while positioning us as one of the premier private clubs in Northeast Florida,” Jay Southerland, president of the JGCC Board of Governors, said in a release.

The club has 747 members, said Hans Grover, club general manager, in a phone interview.

Resident golf members will be assessed $31,750 and social members $19,150.

“Members asked for improvements that reflect the way we live and play today,” Southerland said in the release.

The planned $30 million renovation at Jacksonville Golf & Country Club includes expansion of the clubhouse.

“With this plan, we’re creating an environment that blends modern luxury with the warmth of our club’s storied tradition. These enhancements will elevate the experience for current members and attract those seeking a premier private club lifestyle.”

The club’s golf course will be completely renovated including tee areas, fairways and greens. This will include the installation of a new irrigation and drainage system. Andy Staples, president of Staples Golf Design, is designing the course.

The course will be closed in September 2027 and take between 10 months to a year to complete, Grover said.

“We found it was better to do it all at once, rather than break it up into nine and nine from a cost standpoint and from a timing standpoint,” Grover said.

“So just rip the Band-Aid off and get it done so our members can start enjoying it.”

The new design will separate the large, kidney-shaped green that holes 9 and 18 share.

The sides will be reversed. Hole 18 will become 9, and be a drivable par 4 hole. It will play 7,000 yards from the championship tees.

Tee boxes will added to encourage more skill-appropriate play. They will be redirected to make homes less of an unintended target of wayward drives. Some water hazards will be reduced or filled in while others may increase in size.

The new design will target increasing shot options as well as increasing speed of play.

A two-story, 18,000-square-foot clubhouse addition will expand dining areas, the pool and fitness facilities.

Dining will be expanded inside and outside and include another bar.

The club is seeking construction, architecture and design firms for the clubhouse project. Work is expected to begin in September 2026.

The pool, currently a rectangular lap pool,  will be reconstructed. The new resort-style amenity will feature cabanas, lounging and kids pool. The design will incorporate a lap pool element, Grover said.
