Burger King is making its way to renovate its 51-year-old North Jacksonville restaurant at 937 Dunn Ave., at northwest Dunn Avenue and Regency Drive, west of Interstate 95.

The city is reviewing a permit for an estimated $850,000 remodel of the 3,638-square-foot restaurant.

No contractor is identified. AKA Studio PC of Alpharetta, Georgia, is the architect.

The exterior will be remodeled. The interior work will include new dining room décor and seating, restroom upgrades, kitchen area repairs and an expanded drive-thru area.

The refresh is to the chain’s Garden Grill model.

City utility JEA previously issued a service availability letter for the remodeling.

Burger King Company LLC of Miami owns the 3,482-square-foot restaurant built in 1974.

The restaurant seats 50 customers and has a drive-thru.

Franchisee Royal Restaurant Group of West Palm Beach operates the location. It has more than 30 Burger Kings in Northeast Florida.

Royal Restaurant Group of West Palm Beach bought 24 Burger Kings in Northeast Florida in 2023. Its website shows more locations now.

It has been upgrading or demolishing and rebuilding to meet franchise standards.

“We will be renovating several in the area and (will) bring fresh new Burger King images to Jacksonville,” said Randy Pianin, co-founder and CEO of Royal Restaurant Group LLC, in November 2023.

Burger King’s Garden Grill concept first circulated internationally in 2011. North America President Tom Curtis told QSR Magazine in October 2023 that by the end of 2024, nearly half of domestic stores would have the Garden Grill and new Sizzle look.

Curtis told the magazine that in a good number of Garden Grill units, if the foundation is solid, the conversion is not necessary to knock it down.
