While the company says there are no immediate plans, ABC Fine Wine & Spirits appears to be preparing to transition its Spring Glen and Englewood area store into a Dollar Tree.
The city is reviewing a permit application for conversion of the 10,035-square-foot store at 5440 Beach Blvd. for Dollar Tree, the Chesapeake, Virginia-based chain of discount retailing.
“There is no immediate plan to close the store nor an existing agreement with Dollar Tree,” said Chris Quarles, vice president of real estate for ABC Fine Wine & Spirits, in an email June 23.
Quarles said he can “confirm that we’ve had discussions with Dollar Tree” but had no additional information about Dollar Tree and its process.
“To reiterate, there is no immediate plan to close or relocate the store operation,” he said of ABC Fine Wine & Spirits.
Orlando-based ABC Fine Wine & Spirits is the landlord. J&J Real Estate Ltd., based at ABC headquarters, is the property owner.
The store was built in 2007 on 2.26 acres at southeast Beach Boulevard and Spring Glen Road. Emerson Street also connects at the intersection.
No contractor is specified for the estimated $225,000 project. RRMM Architects of Chesapeake is the architect.
ABC Fine Wine & Spirits has at least 14 stores, including the Beach and Spring Glen location, in Northeast Florida.
Locations.DollarTree.com says there are 51 Dollar Tree stores in Northeast Florida.
Dollar Tree recently changed its primary price point to $1.25.
The company says the stores sell housewares, glassware, dinnerware, cleaning supplies, candy, snacks, food, health and beauty, toys, gifts, gift bags and wrap, party supplies, stationery, craft supplies, teaching supplies, books, seasonal décor and more.
Corporate.DollarTree.com reports that the company operated 16,607 stores in 48 states and five Canadian provinces as of May 3, 2025, under the brands of Dollar Tree, Family Dollar and Dollar Tree Canada.
There were 9,016 Dollar Tree stores.
Dollar Tree is selling Family Dollar. The company agreed March 25, 2025, to sell the Family Dollar business to Brigade Capital Management LP and Macellum Capital Management LLC for $1 billion, subject to closing conditions.
The company expects net proceeds of about $800 million. The deal is expected to close in the second quarter of fiscal 2025, which ends Aug. 3.
Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar in 2015 for $9 billion.
A Family Dollar operates at 5417 Beach Blvd., across Beach Boulevard from the potential new Dollar Tree store.
CNN.com reported March 26 that the sale of Family Dollar “closes the book on a sad and troubled chapter for Dollar Tree,” quoting Neil Saunders, an analyst at GlobalData Retail, in a note to clients. “Dollar Tree bit off far more than it could chew.”
