Tampa-based Metro Development Group has opened its Diamond Springs master-planned community in West Jacksonville, where plans call for 2,700 single-family residences and town homes centered by a lagoon.

The group describes the development as Duval County’s first lagoon community, saying in a news release that Diamond Springs “offers a lifestyle unlike any other in the region, bringing a unique blend of leisure, nature, and modern living.”

Diamond Springs is at Normandy Boulevard and Bright Lagoon Boulevard near the Winchester Ridge subdivision, about 4 1/2 miles west of Cecil Airport.

According to the release, the homes and town homes will feature smart home technology to control lights, temperature and security.

The community’s streets will be lit using solar technology that automatically dims during inactivity and powers to full strength when someone walks or drives by.

The lagoon area is 3 acres. It will be open for kayaking and will have a swim-up bar, a floating obstacle course and a splash pad. The community also will contain several miles of walking and bicycling trails.

“It’s a milestone moment that marks the beginning of a vibrant, thriving community in Jacksonville,” Lisa Gibbings, vice president of marketing and communications for Metro Development Group, said of the opening in the release.

Metro, which identifies itself as the state's largest privately held residential developer, has built lagoon communities in several Florida cities.
