Mason’s Famous Lobster Rolls in St. Johns County is set to close at the end of the month, according to a social media post.
The restaurant is in The Pavilion at Durbin Park shopping center at 120 Durbin Pavilion Drive, Suite D1.
In an unsigned Facebook post for the restaurant, the writer said he or she “would like to thank all of our loyal customers for all of the support you’ve given us over the past 10 months. I would like to let everyone that we will be closing our doors at the end of this month. Again, thank you for your support and welcoming us to the community with open arms.”
Kristen Parker, the assistant general manager, said Sept. 9 staff “do not completely know yet” about plans for the restaurant. She said the general manager, whom she declined to name, wrote the Facebook post Sept. 8.
The St. Johns location opened in November and is one of three in Northeast Florida. The others are 708 Centre St. in Fernandina Beach and 4668 Town Crossing Drive in the St. Johns Town Center. Both of those locations remain open.
Mason’s is a franchised business.
It serves five varieties of lobster rolls, a crabcake roll and a shrimp roll. There are salads, chowder, bisque and sides.
The restaurant also sells whoopie pies, which are chocolate cake-like cookies with cream filling. Delivery prices are listed between $18.95 for the shrimp roll and $22.95 for the lobster rolls.
The company was founded by Dan Beck and is based in Maryland.
The restaurant chain is named after Beck’s son, Mason. The “Famous” part was added to give the appearance it had been a multigenerational business, Dan Beck told the Daily Record last year. The first store opened in 2014.
The website lists 37 locations in the United States and two in Italy.
