New CSX Corp. President and CEO Steve Angel sent the following letter to employees Sept. 29 after becoming the next president and CEO of the Jacksonville-headquartered railroad company. He replaced Joe Hinrichs.
CSX Team,
Following today's announcement, I want to introduce myself and share a few thoughts as I begin my role as your President and CEO. Over the coming weeks, many of us will have the chance to meet in person, but I feel that it is important to begin the conversation now.
My career began at General Electric, where I worked directly with locomotive and rail operations. That experience sparked an interest in the railroad industry that has stayed with me ever since. I later joined Praxair, Inc. and then Linde plc, where I spent nearly 25 years working with teams on complex challenges and opportunities - lessons I bring with me to CSX. What I have valued most in every role is the chance to work alongside people who care deeply about their craft, and to translate shared goals into lasting results.
As I step into this role, I want to thank Joe. Under his leadership. CSX navigated demanding circumstances, strengthened key relationships, and made operational progress that positions us well for the future.
Looking ahead, our focus remains clear: safety above all, dedicated service to our customers, growing our business wisely and investing responsibly in our network, and striving for continuous improvement in all we do - all while living the values of the ONE CSX culture.
I know transitions bring both anticipation and questions. My priority in the coming weeks is to listen and learn - hearing your perspectives, sharing ideas, and building on the great work already underway. We will be hosting a Town Hall on Wednesday, October 1, and I hope to see many of you there.
I am honored to join you and look forward to what we can accomplish together.
