An unidentified 61,000-square-foot grocery store project in St. Johns County’s SilverLeaf community that matches the footprint of a Harris Teeter now includes a proposed gas station, according to plans filed Feb. 12.
Plans show seven fueling stations with 14 pumps, a 240-square-foot kiosk, an overhead canopy and two underground storage tanks. The site is at County Road 16A and SilverLeaf Parkway.
Jacksonville-based Kimley-Horn, the civil engineer for the grocery project, is overseeing the fueling center.
Representatives from Publix Super Markets Inc. and Winn-Dixie said those companies are not involved. Whole Foods did not respond to requests for comment, although its Jacksonville stores range from 40,000 to 51,000 square feet.

Harris Teeter has not responded to repeated questions about its possible interest in the site.
The county’s Development Review Committee is scheduled to discuss the grocery store plans Feb. 18 and the fueling center March 11.
On Nov. 6, 2025, the St. Johns County Planning and Zoning Agency voted 5-1 to recommend approval of a minor modification to the SilverLeaf Planned Unit Development to allow the store.
The modification also would allow an affiliated liquor store and outparcels designed for restaurant tenants to sell alcohol within 270 feet of the Episcopal Church in the Diocese of Florida instead of the required 1,000 feet.
Two additional 61,000-square-foot grocery stores — one unnamed and another confirmed as Harris Teeter — are advancing in Northeast Florida.
On Dec. 1, 2025, St. Johns County began reviewing plans for a store at Veterans Parkway and County Road 210 West that also matches the Harris Teeter prototype.
A day after a November 2025 announcement that it planned to open in Jacksonville, Harris Teeter filed permit applications with the city to build a supermarket and liquor store in the Atlantic North shopping center in East Arlington.
A site-clearing permit was issued Feb. 12 at a cost of $950,000. Tarpon Springs-based Hawkins Construction is the contractor.
Harris Teeter previously operated stores in Jacksonville’s Mandarin neighborhood, which closed in 2004, and in Ponte Vedra Beach, which closed in 2006. Its only Florida store is in Nassau County at 4800 First Coast Highway.
Harris Teeter reported that as of Oct. 29, 2025, it operated more than 250 stores and 60 fuel centers in Delaware, Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, Virginia, Maryland and the District of Columbia.
