Plans are advancing for a Fifth Third Bank branch in the St. Johns County RiverTown community.

A sign permit was issued Feb. 11 at a project cost of $10,625, signaling the branch could be opening soon.

A monument sign was permitted Jan. 7 at a project cost of $2,300. The county issued a $2.5 million building permit for the branch Oct. 17, 2025.

The branch is under construction at the Shoppes at RiverTown, anchored by Publix, at 130 Rivertown Shops Drive off Greenbriar Road and Longleaf Pine Parkway. It is planned as the Cincinnati-based bank’s sixth branch in the county.

Site plans show a 2,554-square-foot building with a drive-thru and 15 parking spaces.

Tampa-based Infinity Engineering Group is the civil engineer. BDG Architects of Jacksonville is the architect.

Other Fifth Third branches in the county are at 180 Bartram Market Drive in Saint Johns; 775 County Road 210 W. in Beachwalk; 500 Florida A1A N. in Ponte Vedra Beach; and 52 Village Lake Drive in Nocatee in Ponte Vedra.

Another is under construction at 144 Registry Blvd., about 2 miles west of World Commerce Center in the Shoppes at Tocoi Creek in the Murabella area.

According to Fifth Third’s website, 53.com, the bank operates 1,087 full-service locations across 11 states. In addition to 186 branches in Florida, it operates in Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee and West Virginia.

On Feb. 2 Fifth Third Bancorp announced it had closed its merger with financial services company Comerica Inc. to create the ninth-largest U.S. bank with approximately $294 billion in assets.
