The city issued a permit March 27 for contractor Schema Group LLC of Chicago to renovate the 22-year-old Hampton Inn & Suites Jacksonville Deerwood Park in Tinseltown at a project cost of $2.47 million.
The work includes interior and some exterior renovations at the 128-room hotel.
The six-floor, 77,000-square-foot hotel was built on 2.22 acres in 2004 at 4415 Southside Blvd. The site is at northeast Southside Boulevard and Deer Lake Court, north of Southside Boulevard.
Quality Oil Co. LLC of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, bought the property in 2002 and developed the hotel.
The property is near the Cinemark Tinseltown Jacksonville and XD movie complex. The Deerwood Park commercial area often is referred to as Tinseltown because of the dominance of the theater.
Work throughout the hotel includes carpentry, carpeting, drywall, electrical, painting, plumbing and tile work in guestrooms, corridors, public spaces and the exterior.
Other work is specific to those areas.
Hampton Inn & Suites is a limited-service Hilton brand considered moderately priced to midscale. Amenities include free hot breakfast and in-room microwaves and minifridges.
The Southside Boulevard location has a gym, pool, laundry facilities and conference space.
