City notes: Scout & Molly's opening in Sawgrass; San Marco location also in works

Franklin Street, a full-service commercial real estate company, helped secure a long-term lease for Scout & Molly’s boutique to open its first location in Northeast Florida.

The store in the Sawgrass Shopping Center is expected to be open by The Players Championship in May.

Scout & Molly’s is a women’s fashion boutique for all ages.

The concept is based in North Carolina and was founded in 2002. It has 10 locations and another 13 are planned.

The Sawgrass store is the first to open in the Jacksonville area and the local franchisees already have other locations in the works, including a location in the San Marco neighborhood.

Semi-finalists named for Teacher of the Year

Fourteen public school teachers were named semi-finalists for the 2016 Florida Blue Duval County Teacher of the Year.

The semi-finalists were selected from the teachers of the year nominated by every public school in Duval County.

From the semi-finalists, five finalists will be selected and announced in February.

From those five, the winner will be named teacher of the year at the 25th Anniversary EDDY Awards Gala Dinner on, March 12 at the Hyatt Regency Jacksonville Riverfront.

Tickets to the EDDY Awards, an initiative of the Jacksonville Public Education Fund, are available at eddyawardsjax.org and are $55 per person.

Jacksonville Armada FC hosting Fan Fest

The Jacksonville Armada FC will host the inaugural Armada FC FanFest from 5-8 p.m. Feb. 4 at the Community First Park at the Baseball Grounds of Jacksonville.

The free event, which includes live music, autograph signing and behind-the-scenes access, is two days before the Armada’s preseason opener against Major League Soccer club Philadelphia Union at Community First Park.

Attendees will be able to sign up for sidelines and locker room tours at the park. Season-ticket holders will have a chance to register for an exclusive on-field “team talk” with Armada FC head coach Tony Meola.

Symphony Civic Orchestra debuts Feb. 6

The Jacksonville Symphony will debut its Civic Orchestra featuring 61 residents of North Florida playing side-by-side with Jacksonville Symphony musicians.

Nathan Aspinall will serve as conductor.

The performance is 8 p.m. Feb. 6 at Jacoby Symphony Hall, Times-Union Center for the Performing Arts.

Practice sessions for the Civic Orchestra will be 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and Feb. 4 at Jacoby Symphony Hall. A dress rehearsal will be 2-4 p.m. Feb. 6.
