On Tuesday, the city signed an economic development agreement with Ecoco Jax LLC, confirming the Chicago-based natural hair-products manufacturer as the identity of Project Blaze.
Ecoco, which bought an EastPark building at 11650 Central Parkway, agreed to create 150 jobs by year-end 2022 at an annual average salary of $50,000 and invest $11 million into the project.
It sought up to $450,000, or $3,000 per job, from the Qualified Target Industry Tax Refund program. The city agreed to refund $90,000 and the state will pay the remainder.
City Council adopted the incentives legislation May 22 with Project Blaze as Ecoco's code name.
The economic development agreement was signed by Ecoco Controller William Bokor and by Sam Mousa, Mayor Lenny Curry's chief administrative officer.
Ecoco paid $8.5 million for the almost 170,000-square-foot EastPark building in June.
The company says on its website the plant will open in the spring.
