The Rotary Club of Jacksonville earned $1,000 toward its philanthropic efforts along with bragging rights over its civic organization colleagues from the Meninak Club of Jacksonville Monday as part of the 46th Annual Meninak/Rotary Charity Golf Tournament.

The Rotarians defended their 2009 crown following a tie in 2008 and a rained-out event in 2007.

There was no hint of potential inclement weather Monday. Many of the 40 golfers commented on the pristine golfing conditions following a joint meeting of the two longtime civic organizations that featured Ch. 12 Sports Director Dan Hicken as guest speaker.

Hicken spoke of the weekend of sports, including the Jaguars’ win against the Colts and the University of Florida’s letdown against top-ranked Alabama, before fielding questions.

Before hitting the course, Meninak President Kent Lindsey and Rotary President Cindy Stover traded good-natured competitive jabs, but ultimately it was about bringing the two groups together again for charity and a little fun.

“It’s about friendship and fellowship,” said Stover.
