Officials at the I.M. Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless announced plans Thursday for Transformations, an annual fundraiser for the shelter. Along with various businesses, civic organizations and churches, major sponsors Stein Mart, the Weaver Family Foundation and Compass Bank agreed to underwrite the gala, which is scheduled for Sept. 5.

Kites were distributed to representatives from 26 groups who pledged to raise dollar amounts equal to 50 or more nights of shelter. The top 10 teams will be honored at the Transformations celebration. The kites represent the center’s efforts to soar to new heights in terms of service of contributions.

“September is the result of three years of effort to create a unique fundraising event,” said Michael Munz, Sulzbacher Center chairman of the board. “The mark of a great city is how it cares for all its citizens, especially for those in need.”

Last year, 27,000 nights of

shelter were raised through the fundraiser.
