Windsor Pointe independent living offered a “first look event” Oct. 24 to its project at 4060 San Pablo Parkway.

Legend Senior Living’s $22 million project is the second facility of its kind in the country for the company.

Kansas-based Legend Senior Living operates 40 residences in Colorado, Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania and Texas.

Only one, in Kansas, is an independent living facility, where residents do not receive medical care from staff. Its other facilities provide assisted living and memory care.

Legends operates two assisted living and memory care facilities in Jacksonville in San Pablo and Ortega.

Vice President of Business Development Debi Thomas said in March the company decided to add an independent living facility in Jacksonville after hearing from residents that they would like the option.

Windsor Pointe broke ground in June 2020. The community has 137 one- and two-bedroom apartments for people over the age of 55.

While some communities require an upfront payment, Windsor Pointe said in March it leases units month-to-month, starting at $3,295. That includes utilities, phone, cable, daily breakfast and dinner on-site and 24-hour concierge service.

Units have a full kitchen, washer and dryer, dishwasher and most have a balcony.

Kimberly Crawford-Stokes, sales director for Windsor Pointe, said in March those who want to live in the community typically want to downsize, be closer to family or have less home maintenance.

Windsor Pointe has three restaurants on-site and an outdoor cabana with a full bar and a grill.

Latitudes is a full-service, upscale restaurant on the first floor. The Beaches Eatery is a more casual spot for sandwiches, wraps and salads. The Hatch is a pub-style restaurant with TVs, billiards, shuffleboard, jukebox and a full bar.

Residents have access to a fitness center, spa, library and business center.

They have access outside to a pool, hot tub, bocce ball court, putting green, bark park and workshop.

Windsor Pointe is about a mile from Mayo Clinic and will offer shuttle service to the hospital.

Thomas said several apartments will be furnished and designated for long-term Mayo Clinic patients to rent while receiving treatment.

Because the facility is next door to The Windsor at San Pablo, residents from the independent living facility can move more easily into assisted living.
