The Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission is seeking qualified applicants to fill the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Major B. Harding effective Aug. 31.
According to the state constitution, each of the state’s five appellate districts must have at least one elected or appointed Supreme Court justice who is a resident of the district at the time of his/her original appointment.
Based on the court’s present composition, Justice Harding’s seat will be an at-large vacancy.
Applicants must have been a member of The Florida Bar for the preceding 10 years and a registered voter. Applications may be obtained from The Florida Bar’s website: www.flabar.org or by calling the chair, Andrew Grigsby, 305-238-8235.
Eleven copies of the completed application with attachments must be received by Grigsby, 200 S. Biscayne Blvd., Suite 800, Miami 33131 no later than 5 p.m. on May 17. An organizational/screening committee meeting has been set for May 23.
Interviews are tentatively scheduled for June 5-6.
