As dozens of City officials, library workers and others interested in the new main library looked on, Mayor John Delaney climbed behind the wheel of a CAT D-5 bulldozer Monday morning to break ground for the $95 million project, which he called “a signature building for downtown Jacksonville.” Those attending the ceremony were asked to leave their thoughts or a favorite quote on cards that were once part of the library catalog system. Robert A.M. Stern, the architect for the library, helped library board chairman Joy Korman bury the box of cards, saying “our hopes are high for this building.”
