Five nominated for Supreme Court

The Florida Supreme Court Judicial Nominating Commission has sent five names to Gov. Jeb Bush for his consideration in filling the vacancy created by the retirement of Justice Major B. Harding on August 31.

The five were from a pool of 21 applicants. The commission interviewed reach last week in Tampa.

The names sent to the governor:

Judge Chris W. Altenbernd, 53, Tampa, Second District Court of Appeals.

Judge Kenneth B. Bell, 46, Pensacola, 1st Judicial Circuit

Raoul G. Cantero III, 41, Miami, Adorno & Zeder P.A.

Judge Philip J. Padovano, 55, First District Court of Appeals.

Judge Peter D. Webster, 53, First District Court of Appeals.

The governor now has 60 days to make the appointment.

Members of the commission are Chair Andrew E. Grigsby, Miami; Vice Chair John Edwin Fisher, Orlando; Joseph P. Milton, Jacksonville; Dean C. Colson, Coral Gables; Olga M. Calvet, Lake Buena Vista; Kevin R. Neal, Tallahassee; Tina M. Matte, Fort Myers; Philip Freidin, Miami, and Mary Kleyla Phillips, Jacksonville.
