A brick and wrought iron wall constructed along Bay Street around the Maxwell House coffee plant has a two-fold purpose: it provides added security for the plant and is helping to beautify the area. “Since Sept. 11 it has been a requirement that all Maxwell House plants have this wall for security reasons,” said Janice Rubin, a spokesperson for Maxwell House, adding that employees entering the plant must have a key or a swipe card. The wall took several months to build and was finished June 15. “With the Super Bowl coming, they wanted to make it attractive to fit in with the other future downtown development in that area,” said Rubin.
