You know…when you think back over the years about past Laurels, the programs kind of left vague memories. I mean, don’t get me wrong, “The Laurelettes” are a memory that won’t go away. Captain Laurel, if I say so myself was outstanding, but I believe I stand in a very small minority with it. And just for kicks, name the program two years ago?…see what I mean.

AHHH 2002! C’est Laurel. Now we’re talking! In all my years of attending this star-studded event, I can’t remember any other that caught, and kept my attention as this one did.

AHHH, THE CAN CANS. Think back to the old cowboy movies when you were growing up as a kid. The black and white scenes with the honky tonk piano playing. All the locals congregating at the bar in town, having a grand ol’ time…the entertainment, CAN CANS!

Or how ‘bout the recent movie with Nicole Kidman in Moulan Rouge, Awesome!…CAN CANS everywhere.

If you were not there, oh well, speaking from my vantage point…you blew it. The only regret that I have is that I had to leave early and I understand that I missed the Grand Finale. The Crème da la Crème. There is a rumor floating around that the theme and intentions of all involved in the Laurel Committee were raised much higher than what was displayed, and entertained. I have even heard that our Laurel Chair, Linda Moore has received a small number of disturbing calls from attendees expressing their disappointment, to say the least, with the dance routine the CANS CANS chose.

Geees, I hope it’s just rumors. First of all, Linda is a wonderful person, as well as all the committee folks that worked so damn hard to make this event happen. Second, the show that was viewed, I can assure you, was not exactly what was expected. And lastly…I thought it was great just the way it was!
