The City Council selected Jerry Holland as its president-designate Tuesday night after fellow Council member Jim Overton dropped out of the race Tuesday morning. Holland received 15 of the 18 votes, with Council vice president Suzanne Jenkins and Council members Alberta Hipps and Pat Lockett-Felder voting against Holland. Council member Lynette Self was not present for the vote. Lad Daniels was elected vice president by a 17-0 vote, with Lockett-Felder abstaining. Holland begins his term as president July 1. Daniels and Holland got together following the vote.
