The Northeast Florida Paralegal Association met Thursday at The River Club. Bill Joel, president of the Jacksonville Bar Association provided the keynote address, speaking on the role the JBA plays, community service projects, improving the image of lawyers and lessons he has learned in his practice.

“The real measure of us as human beings is how we treat the people who can’t do anything to us and how we treat the people who can’t do anything for us,” said Joel, who has been involved in several projects, including a seminar on diversity in the legal profession, the Adopt a Precinct program where attorneys assisted voters at the polls and the Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless legal intake clinic. Because the paralegals recently changed the name of the association, they are sponsoring a contest for members to design a new logo. Their next luncheon is scheduled for Jan. 9.
