The American Cancer Society, Duval County Unit, hosted a grand opening ceremony Thursday for its new headquarters on Prudential Drive. Although the facility is fully functional and already in use, the work on the building will not be completed “for some time,” according to Jeff Edwards, president of the Duval Unit of the American Cancer Society.

The new center includes a library, community board room, workroom, conference room, administrative offices and space for volunteers to provide services to patients.

“I’ve been a volunteer for 36 years,” said Carter Bryan, a member of the capital campaign committee. “In the years I’ve been involved, I’ve seen a number of changes in the fight against cancer. Over 92,000 Floridians have been diagnosed this year. The good news is 62 percent will be cured.”
