Jim DelVecchio is the president of Home South Mortgage.

He opened the company in 1996 and specializes in residential, wholesale and retail lending.

AS PRESIDENT, WHAT DO YOU DO?

“My number one objective is to position the company in the marketplace for the future. Our intent is to be one of the leaders in the mortgage industry in the Southeast. I am overseeing the growth and development of our company which encompasses new markets and new origination techniques.”

BEFORE HOME SOUTH MORTGAGE?

Before opening his own company, he was the head of NationsBank’s North Florida residential lending division in Jacksonville.

HOW DID YOU GET INTO LENDING?

Prior to the mortgage business, DelVecchio was a professional baseball player with the Los Angeles Dodgers, but his career was cut short by a knee injury. “I was lying on the ground in the infield where I hurt my knee and a little voice said to me I need to get into the mortgage business.”

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT LENDING?

“It allows the little guy to look forward and grow a company as large as they are willing to work at it. The opportunities are endless.”

WHERE IS YOUR COMPANY LOCATED?

Sutton Park Drive, off Hodges Boulevard.

WHAT IS THE MONTHLY LOAN PRODUCTION THAT YOUR COMPANY DOES IN JACKSONVILLE?

Approximately $7 million a month.

HOW MANY ARE ON YOUR STAFF?

Six, including three loan officers and three support staff.

NAMES OF LOAN OFFICERS?

Jim DelVecchio, Kyle Hunter and Jackie Bowling.

HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE THE LENDING OF HOMESOUTH MORTGAGE?

“We do all government and conventional loan types. “

HOW DO YOU PROMOTE YOUR COMPANY?

“We have a website, ehomesouth.com. We do some consumer direct advertising, but the major share of our business is referral-based.”

PROFESSIONAL OR CIVIC INVOLVEMENT

DelVecchio is the president of the Northeast Florida Builders Association’s Sales and Marketing Council. He is on board of directors for NEFBA and a member of the Mortgage Bankers Association of America.

BIRTHPLACE

Bridgeport, Conn.

FAMILY

He has been married to Donna for 11 years. They have four dogs, five cats and enjoy golfing, snow skiing, kayaking and cooking. His wife owns The Facial Suite in St. Simons, Ga. and she is an international spa consultant.

RESIDES

Currently, he and his wife have a house on St. Simons Island, but they are building a house in Palencia.

FAVORITES

His favorite movie is “Field of Dreams” and a recent book he read and would recommend is “Jack” by Jack Welsh. When dining out, he is partial to “Crab Daddy’s” on St. Simons Island. When traveling, he enjoys Vail, Colo. for “the snow skiing and because it has the feel of a European village.” When relaxing at home, he enjoys tuning into Fox News and the Golf Channel. His favorite musicians are Sting, Peter Gabrielle and Diana Krull.
