With the distinctive sound and feel of a jackhammer, Mayor John Delaney officially broke ground Wednesday afternoon on the new $211 million Duval County Courthouse complex. The project is the last of the four major vertical projects in the $2.2 billion Better Jacksonville Plan, a half-cent sales tax increase which Delaney championed and voters approved in September 2000. Several City officials were present as well as members of Skanska Dynamic Partners, the courthouse construction team, representatives from Canon Design, the courthouse architect, several federal and county judges and attorneys.
