John Peyton began his inaugural day with an interdenominational service at his own church, St. John’s Cathedral downtown. It was the start of a long day that will conclude this evening when he is sworn in as the City’s mayor at the T-U Center.

Over 300 attended the service, which included readings from the Torah, the Qur’an and the Bible, a sermon by Rev. Robert Lee of FreshMinistries and a brief address by Peyton.

Peyton, who arrived at 7:20 a.m. for the 8:30 service, was greeted at the Cathedral by one of the vergers, Carol Abdelnour.

Also at the service was Brother Pete Jackson (center, with usher Bennie Seth and Rev. Anne Bridgers,) who gave the closing prayers. Jackson will be on Peyton’s team as the community relations adviser.
