The popular Beaches Fine Arts Series is preparing for another season of free concerts. This year’s lineup includes the American Brass Quintet, world-renowned pianist Richard Goode, the Marcus Roberts Trio, Chanticleer, chamber music from Czech Nonet, Alan Morrison, the Leipzig String Quartet and Fuoco E Cenere, a combination of viola, flute and opera sounds set to the music of both George Gershwin and Henry Purcell [a 16th Century British composer]. For each concert, the works of a local visual artist also will be featured.
“Richard Goode is just amazingly talented,” said Kathryn Wallis, executive director of the Series. “He plays with major symphony orchestras. His fees are enormous. I try to work on getting reduced fees for all the artists so we can get the best deal.”
Marcus Roberts, blind since the age of five, was born in Jacksonville. His ensemble will be participating in an extended residency to play in Duval County public schools. Correlating the use of math in music will be the model for study.
“All of the artists will be in a school program of some sort,” said Wallis.
The new season begins in September.
