After more than 60 years, the post office in the old Federal Courthouse on Monroe Street was closed following a brief ceremony Friday. Only about 30 attended, including Postmaster Bill McKillop.

Several former postal workers were on hand to commemorate the occasion as was the Gator Bowl Basha Color Guard China-Burma-India Veterans Association (above,) which took down the flag for the final time.

The post office has contracted with Ziba Hair Salon on Hogan Street to provide retail and post office box services and the facility will be called the Downtown Contract Postal Unit.
