The Young Lawyers Section is proud to announce that it has been selected as this year’s recipient of The Florida Bar YLD’s Most Outstanding Member Service Award.
The award recognizes a Young Lawyers group whose project internally serves young lawyers, provides for membership enrichment and is innovative. As shocking as it sounds, YLS did not win this impressive award for its infamous happy hours, although we are very proud of these “membership enriching” events. Rather, it was YLS’s Trial Docket project that garnered this honor. Each week YLS posts the trial schedule for our local state and federal courts on the Jacksonville Bar Association website.
The schedule includes the name of the case, the attorneys involved, the type of case, and the anticipated length of the trial. The intent is to provide an opportunity for young lawyers to observe trials and learn from more seasoned attorneys. Check out the Trial Docket on the website at www.jaxbar.org.

Mark your calendars for the next Judicial Breakfast for the Circuit Court Judges to be held Thursday, June 26 from 8–9 a.m. Remember, this is a chance for young lawyers to mingle with the Judges over coffee and bagels. Be on the lookout for the announcement of the annual YLS luncheon. At the luncheon, we will be holding elections for three seats on the YLS Board of Governors. Service on the YLS Board offers many opportunities to not only get involved in our legal community, but also to participate in numerous civic and charitable causes. Be assured that next year’s Board under the leadership of Ray Driver, Braxton Gillam and Troy Smith will certainly be entertaining.
