• Representatives from the Public Works Department and the General Counsel’s Office met Wednesday to discuss Berkman Plaza. Developers asked the City to pay for a $1.3 million repair to the half-built, $70 million riverfront development’s Riverwalk. Assistant General Counsel John Germany said a proposal was drafted to resolve the disagreement with Atlanta-based D.B. Holdings and they presented it to the developer’s counsel late Wednesday afternoon. Germany declined to discuss the specifics.

• The City will begin its search for a new fire chief next week when the Fire and Rescue subcommittee reviews applications currently filed with the City’s Human Resources Department.

• Speaking of the fire chief, Ray Alfred may be on the way out here, but he was in Atlanta recently, helping the City of Atlanta conduct its fire chief selection process.

• Turner Construction wants to have Coliseum debris cleared from the June 26 demolition to accommodate parking for the Aug. 15 Jags game. Although they can’t commit to that date, the Better Jacksonville status update says the lot won’t be available until mid-October.

• Former Fraternal Order of Police president David Stevens has a new job. Sheriff-elect John Rutherford appointed him to an assistant chief position.

• Got an answer in response to a City Note from last week. We asked about the “Treasure Chest” in the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission conference room. Answer: it holds goodies for employees of the month.

• Jaguars announcer Brian Sexton spent a month in Europe broadcasting the NFL’s minor league games there and took advantage of his spare time. “If I wanted to lay on the beach for 26 days, I could have done it here,” he said. Stops included the Greek isles, Amsterdam and Budapest, plus many cities in Germany and Spain.

• The Florida Court of Appeals works fast. Though originally scheduled to hear cases in the Duval County Courthouse all week, the appellant judges finished in just one day.

• A ground breaking has been scheduled for June 16 on the Sulzbacher Center’s new child development center. Well, not exactly a “ground breaking.” According to director Linda Lanier, a traditional ceremony won’t be possible due to pollution in the area. A “cute” alternative has been planned instead.

• A landmark for Gator fans is going. The long-closed Peanut Butter Disco Club, which is on the edge of Starke and familiar to anyone going to Gainesville, will be torn down today.

• The Adam’s Mark Hotel is hosting its Summer White Party July 3 from 8 p.m.-2 a.m. Cost is $15 and all white attire will be strictly enforced.
