July 1 marks the beginning of a new term for the City Council, but before any legislation takes place, new members will be installed during a ceremony at the T-U Center next month.

“It will be similar to last year’s program,” said Council president-elect Lad Daniels of the June 26 event. “[Outgoing president] Jerry Holland will give a speech and we’ll also be giving out some awards to current Council members. There should be some nice music and entertainment and we’ll start around 6 or 6:30 p.m.”

A reception will follow the ceremony.

Daniels and vice president-elect Elaine Brown, who will both be sworn into their new offices that evening, will meet with a committee Thursday morning to “work on the details.”

“When you plan things like these you try to keep it around an hour or so,” said Daniels. “But there’s a possibility we’ll include the installation of the new constitutional officers, too. It will run a little longer if we do. Right now we’re trying to coordinate with them and the mayor’s office.”
