• Some traffic patterns were changed and getting to the stadium from the downtown area was much smoother. Most north-south streets were closed and cones were placed on east-west streets such as Forsyth and Bay to force drivers into lanes. Main Street bridge traffic, which used to go right onto Bay, was divided with half being forced to go up to Forsyth, then going up to Maxwell House before getting onto Bay.
• One intermission highlight is the beer barrel roll where Jaxson de Ville and two fans roll barrels from one side of the field to the other. Jaxson almost always wins, but he didn’t Sunday — he got offline and ran into one of the other competitors.
• Oddity. The Veteran’s Day theme included old film of battle scenes shown on the giant stadium screens. The film included graphic shots of World War II American fighter planes strafing enemy positions.
• The blustery weather didn’t deter members of the Neptune Beach Senior Citizen Center. About 20 seniors watched the game from the North end zone.
• The Jags might want to re-think their television commercials, inviting fans to be part an “historic season” which might end up being true, but it’s probably not the kind of history they had in mind when the commercials were made.
• When Jags defensive tackle John Henderson makes a big play, the P.A. systems play the song “Big John.”
• NFL officials were in town this week for a meeting on community football. As part of the gathering several Pop Warner teams had a chance to play a game in the stadium Saturday and many of the youngsters were spotted at Sunday’s game, wearing their team jerseys.
• Next games: it doesn’t get any easier as the Jags go on the road: Nashville to play the Tennessee Titans and New York to play the Jets. The next home game could draw enough to avoid a blackout as Tampa Bay comes for a Sunday night game on Nov. 30. Reason for the good crowd: Tampa Bay has over 20,000 on the ticket waiting list and this is their best chance to see their team.
