The Brown Museum of Art in Springfield installed two new pieces in its gallery last week. Orlando-based artist Michael Jamali, self-described as a mystical expressionist because of the spiritual nature of his subjects, created both. The larger piece, “Symphony in Red,” depicts Christ’s ascension to heaven after his crucifixion. The 7 feet by 10 feet painting wholesaled for $80,000. Museum owner Phillip Brown plans to make Jamali the predominant artist in his exhibitions. Jamali is represented by Steller’s Gallery in Riverside and maintains his own gallery, Jamali Fine Art, in New York.
