Riverside is about to become home to the latest in a string of a Colorado-based burrito franchises. Qdoba Mexican Grill is set to open Sept. 11 in Market Square.
Qdoba also has stores in Georgia, Alabama and Texas.
“It’s the first store in the city and only the second in the state,” said Heather Johnson, a marketing coordinator for ZT Enterprises, the North Florida franchisee of Qdoba. “We’re really excited about coming to Jacksonville because it’s always been a part of our strategy to be in areas that are on the verge of exploding.”
A Baymeadows store is already in the works.
Johnson admitted there were “similarities in the concepts” between Qdoba and Moe’s Southwest Grill, which is already a presence in San Marco and the Beaches. However, she stressed there were elements that set Qdoba’s products apart.
“In addition to the different spices we use, “ said Johnson, “we grill our meats every hour so that it is as fresh as possible. We also serve menu items that you can’t get in other restaurants. It’s hard to explain, but everyone who comes to one of our restaurants leaves happy.”
Quarter pound hand rolled burritos are priced for less than $6 and other menu items include taco salads, quesadillas and homemade guacamole.
Qdoba will be open from 10:30 a.m until 10 p.m seven days a week. In addition to juice and soda, beer, wine and margaritas will be served.
“We’re confident our fresh, quality food, fast service and unique flavors will be a home-run in this community,” said Frank De Angelo, CEO of ZT Enterprises.
