The South Jacksonville Rotary Club presented its plans for the Gingerbread House Extravaganza Tuesday at the Radisson.
Corporations and members of civic groups, school groups and other organizations will sponsor the building of gingerbread houses to benefit Ronald McDonald House. The organization plans to add 10 more beds — there are currently 20 — to its facility in 2004.
Jacksonville Jaguars coach Jack Del Rio was present to unveil a gingerbread replica of the Ronald McDonald House. The to-scale model is three feet tall and three feet wide. It was designed and built by Gresham Smith & Partners — the design firm responsible for the real Ronald McDonald House — and decorated by Grace Smith, co-owner of The Cake Shop of San Jose.
The gingerbread houses will be on display at the Radisson from Nov. 29 until Dec. 20.
