• The attorney for the Amsterdam Sky Cafe said unexpected utility repairs has pushed the sports complex cafe’s opening back to Oct. 10. Jody Brooks also said she was working with JEDC executive director Kirk Wendland and Assistant General Counsel Karen Chastain to arrange parking for the cafe near the new arena. Also, the cafe is looking for employees in anticipation of its opening.

• Police officers were stationed on the downtown side of the Main Street Bridge Wednesday, handing out tickets to drivers who ran red lights at the bridge’s Southbank entrance. Patrolman J.R. Bradshaw said the sheriff’s office has received complaints from the bridge tender that motorists were running the lights, preventing the draw bridge from raising.

• Mayor John Peyton is pleased with the City Council’s more cautious approach to implementing his new borrowing and lending strategies. The Council voted Tuesday night to invest initially about $300 million into the strategies with another $500 million to follow. Peyton was asking for an initial plunge of about $900 million. “We’re introducing a new concept in City finance,” said mayor’s office spokesperson Heather Murphy. “Our highest priority was making the Council comfortable with these changes.”

• Kassi Hite of The Dalton Agency has been promoted. The former account assistant is now an account executive.

• It appears there are two musicians at Mayor Peyton’s house. As previously reported, the mayor plays a mean piano and his wife, Kathryn, plays the violin.

• John Turner, former public information officer at the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office, is now the assignment editor at Ch. 30/Ch. 47.

• Mayor Peyton will lead the dedication of the first piece of Art in Public Places Oct. 2 at 5:30 p.m. in the Balis Community Center, San Marco Library. The painting by local artist Jerry Smith will be in the lobby. The Better Jacksonville Plan calls for public art to be on display at all the new vertical structures going up.

• Downtown Vision, Inc. will hold its annual meeting today, starting at 5 p.m., at Snyder Memorial Methodist Church, 226 N. Laura St. Mayor Peyton will address the group. During the evening, DVI will hold its inaugural Downtown Achievement Awards ceremony.
