The Salvation Army distributed free school supplies and uniforms to hundreds of families at a back-to-school party Wednesday.
More than 2,200 applications requesting aid were sent to The Salvation Army.
About 30 volunteers helped distribute the supplies. Besides handing out school supplies, the party featured a small carnival, children’s games and refreshments.
Melanie Love, public relations coordinator for The Salvation Army, said this year’s event went well, despite the 100-degree temperatures.
“We always hope to service the needs of every child,” she said. “We were very successful this year. It was just too hot, though.”
