Women's Commission seeking outstanding Young Women

The Mayor’s Commission on the Status of Women is accepting nominations of young women who have made outstanding contributions to the Jacksonville community.

Up to 25 nominees will be selected for recognition as “Young Women of Vision” at the commission‚s Women’s History Month Breakfast and featured as honorees on a specially designed slide show presented before and after the event. The 2005 breakfast is scheduled for March 8 at the UNF University Center.

Criteria includes:

• Nominees must be 18 to 25 years old.

• Nominees must be residents of the greater Jacksonville area.

• Nominees will have exhibited courage in the face of adversity, overcome great barriers to achieve success, or demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to helping others in the community or making Jacksonville a better place.

Volunteer activities must be above and beyond requirements of class projects or school policies.

Nomination forms are available on the commission’s website at www.coj.net. They also may be obtained by calling the commission at 630-1650. Only nominations submitted on the form will be accepted. The commission is accepting nominations from individuals, women’s organizations, schools and other groups. The nomination deadline is Jan. 15.
