The first Sea Cow for Kids was unveiled Wednesday night at the Sea Cows for Kids Artist Meet and Greet at the Ritz Theatre.

Spirit, designed by teacher Shay Nicola, was unveiled for Sea Cow sponsors, potential sponsors and other artists who submitted design renderings.

“There were hundreds of submissions, and over 200 were accepted” said Stefanie Ambrosio, communication coordinator for the Otis Smith Kids Foundation, the benefactor of Sea Cows for Kids.

The art project, modeled after similar projects held in Chicago, Buffalo, New York, Atlanta and other cities, will raise money for the Otis Smith Kids Foundation.

“This is exciting,” said City Council vice president Elaine Brown. “I was hoping someone would pull off this project because a lot of people (in Jacksonville) have tried.”
