• As part of its financial restructuring, the Jacksonville Symphony Orchestra is considering changing its bylaws to increase the size of its Endowment Fund Committee from five to “no fewer than seven members and no greater than nine,” according to a memo sent out by board chair Pete Carpenter. The increase is designed to allow for more investment experience on the board. The JSO announced in late 2003 a plan to climb out of about $2 million in debt.

• G. Stephen Manning has joined Akerman Senterfitt as of counsel in the Real Estate/Environmental and Land Use Group. Manning comes from Lewis, Longman & Walker P.A., where he was a senior attorney.

• The Super Bowl Host Committee and AmSouth Bank are hosting a Super Bowl pep rally party today from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at spiller vincenty gallery on the Southbank.

• Johnny Torres is the new owner of the New York Minute bike courier service. It also has a new name: Zippy Courier Service.

• Most of the local TV crews were busy with the Martin Luther King parade Monday, but Ch. 30’s Celine MacArthur had a different assignment. She was in front of Jacobs Jewelers doing a report for the station’s crimestoppers program.

• A couple of downtown’s most recognizable faces are back on the job. Debbie and Nick Kounoupas of Gus & Company Shoe and Luggage Repair returned recently from several weeks in their native Greece.

• Local Steak and Ale restaurants will soon be serving some comedy with their meals. The steakhouse has partnered with Improvjacksonville to present “Die Laughing,” an improvisational who-done-it. The first performance is Sunday at the Steak and Ale on Baymeadows Road. Tickets are $40 and includes dinner.

• The Super Bowl Host Committee met recently with the mayors of Atlantic, Neptune and Jacksonville beaches to discuss how those cities would be involved in Super Bowl festivities. There’s talk of using Town Center at the end of Atlantic Boulevard for several activities, and possibly a one-day air show similar to the Sea and Sky Spectacular.
