Members of the Emergency Services and Homeless Coalition of Jacksonville joined local and federal officials Tuesday morning at the Clara White Mission as the Department of Housing and Urban Development awarded over $4 million in Emergency Shelter and Continuum of Care grants.

Local organizations benefiting include the I.M Sulzbacher Center for the Homeless, Volunteers of America, Goodwill and Community Connections.

“We’re pleased to award these grants so that the good work of these organizations can continue well into the future,” said J. Nicholas Shelley, HUD’s Jacksonville field office director. “As long as there is a homeless problem in America, we’ll be here to help.”

This year, HUD has awarded $58.3 million to Florida organizations and $1.27 billion nationwide.
